Another thing I missed last week, was that the Eclipse foundation released Eclipse 3.1.
I have been using the beta's of 3.1 since they first came out, because I am working on a project that uses all the new features in Java 1.5 (generics, new for loops, enums, new api's, etc. they all rock!). Eclipse 3.0 didn't support the new Java 1.5 syntax so I was forced into using the beta's, it's nice to be on a stable release now.
Here are some of the new and noteworthy features in Eclipse 3.1:
- Support for Java 1.5
- Significant Performance Enhancements
- Editor lookup based on content type
- Single JAR plug-ins
- Hyperlink support in editors
- Text editors now support word completion
- You can now open a text editor without creating a file first
- You can now have more than one editor open on the same file
- View all keyboard shortcuts - press Ctrl+Shift+L
- Ant debugger
- Improved Ant Editor
