Google Webmaster Stats

web It appears that Google has expanded on the stats that they offer to webmasters. The stats were previously available only to those with a sitemap defined, but now you can access them just by telling them your url, and verifying.

They also provide more stats than they did a few months ago.

Google Site Verification

web I just noticed today that you can verify that you own a web site from within the google sitemaps website. The process is simple - Google will tell you to create a file on your site (something like /GOOGLEea6f95a80579477e.html), then they check to see if its there.

I got del.icio.us'd

web Though it doesn't have quite the same allure as getting slashdotted, getting del.icio.us'd can also draw quite a bit of traffic.

I posted a Cheat Sheet Roundup to my blog last thursday around 4pm EST. It made it to the del.icio.us/popular/ page in a few hours, and has been on there since.

Finding Feed subscribers from the User Agent

web I just noticed last week that some of the online web aggregators (such as bloglines, newsgator online, live journal, etc) will send the number of subscribers in their HTTP user agent. For example:

NewsGatorOnline/2.0_(http://www.newsgator.com;_20_subscribers)

Bloglines/2.

Majority of Surfers use 1024x768 or better

web According to some stats released by OneStat only 18.23% of browsers are using 800x600 these days, down from 24.66% last year.

A whopping 57.38% use 1024x768, the rest use something higer (I'm sure there are still a few 640x480's out there viewing the web with CGA graphics card).

FeedBurner Awareness API

web FeedBurner is introducing their Feed Awareness API. If you have a free account with FeedBurner you can get your feed circulation (number of subscribers), and number of hits on your feed using their REST api.

If you have a pro account you can get item, and resyndication data from the API.

Guestimating blog feed readers

web I don't have any fancy way of finding out how many people read my RSS feed, but one way of getting a rough idea is by assuming that every reader downloads the feed every hour. From my web stats I can see how many times my rss feed has been downloaded in a month.

Mac Users on the Rise

apple web I know that my visitors represent a very niche portion of the internet - but I have noticed that the number of Mac users on this web site has spiked this month.

In January of 2005 4.3% of my visitors were on Mac's, so far in May of 2005 12.4% are Mac users.
