Why is my cron.daily script not running?

linux Over the years when setting up servers I have run into the various ways that your cron.daily or cron.hourly scripts manage to fail to run. Today I ran into a new reason which I don't recall running into before, maybe something has changed or maybe I just never ran into it.

linux misc I learned something new from my brother the other day about unix job processing. We had written a script to do some specific analysis of the logs for dealazon.com, and it would take about 30 seconds to a minute for the script to complete.

Tab completion in Windows 2000

misc One of my favorite features of unix is tab completion. You can type the first letter of a directory, and then hit tab and it will complete the rest for you. This is enabled by default on Windows XP, but on windows 2000 it isn't. Here's how you enable it. Run regedit.
