I thought it would be fun, and informative to conduct some interviews with web developers on my blog. I'm starting off with someone that most of my blog readers probably already know, and many have probably even had a beer with - Sean Corfield.

Erki Esken posted a comment on Ben Forta's blog asking if the source to the RDS plugin for Eclipse would be released. Forta's response was:

"But, my gut feel is that it would not be a good idea to fully expose the source for RDS as that may create potential security problems.

I just noticed that Macromedia Studio 8 has dropped the MX branding that all their web development products have had for the last few years.

ColdFusion version 7 still has the MX branding, and was released about 6 months ago.

Via arstechnica, The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is taking a closer look at Adobe's acquisition of Macromedia.

Looking for example applications built with Macromedia products? I found this list of Macromedia sample applications

in the del.icio.us side bar on cfmx.org.

There are Flex, Flash, ColdFusion, and Dreamweaver example apps there.

I just noticed that Macromedia's site search is throwing a coldfusion exception. Hmm no global error handler on macromedia.com?

On a related note the search in MXNA doesn't seam to return any results either. Not a good day for search at Macromedia.

I noticed this snip about open source software at Adobe on the O'Reilly Radar:

Tim O'Reilly has a blog post on Zorn - Macromedia's Flash tool that will run on Eclipse. Tim is on the Board of Directors for Macromedia...

Note that if you plan to use Dreamweaver, FreeHand, or Contribute on Mac OS X 10.4, Tiger, there are some known issues that Macromedia has posted. Dreamweaver has about 11 compatibility issues though none of them look to be too serious.

I was wondering why there aren't any hosting providers that offer Macromedia Flex hosting (or should I say Adobe Flex hosting).

I think I finally put my finger on why hard-core Macromedians are generally un-easy about the pending Macromedia acquisition. Its that everyone hates Adobe.

I refrained from posting about the merger yesterday, though I had some thoughts written up - I never got around to posting them. Lots of people have commented on the topic since, Jason Kottke has a good summary of some of the recent talk about the merger.

I was just looking at the Linux system requirements for ColdFusion MX 7. For supported linux operating systems, it lists:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS & ES 2.1 or 3.0

SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8.x

TurboLinux 8 Server (Japanese only)

Now that Central 1.5 is out, I can release this Central Book Finder Application that I wrote back in December when Central 1.0 was out.

I couldn't release it under the Central 1.0 license, but now with the Central 1.5 Open Distribution License I can.

Macromedia has a presentation about the upcoming Macromedia Central platform.

The presentation notes that there are 750,000 Flash developers, and there is a $2.2B market for these "Permium Internet Content Applications" (Jupiter Research).
